Capital Health and CarShareHFX partner for greener community

A new partnership between CarShareHFX and Capital Health offers Capital Health employees transportation options that are good for the environment and easy on the pocketbook.

CarShareHFX is Halifax’s first multi-vehicle car sharing service offering a network of vehicles conveniently situated in the HRM, available for hourly or daily rental. The service encourages its members to take advantage of car ownership alternatives such as cycling, walking, carpooling and public transportation without sacrificing the convenience and mobility motor vehicles provide. Users reap the benefits of financial savings, increased physical activity and decreased carbon footprint, all in keeping with Capital Health’s dedication to sustaining a healthy community.

“Partnering with CarShareHfx reduces transportation costs and provides our staff members the opportunity to use a car when it’s needed in the course of their work,” Capital Health president and CEO Chris Power says. “By having a CarShareHFX car onsite on South Street, our staff has the option of walking, biking and taking transit to work, increasing health. It also provides another access point for car share members in the community.”

CarShareHFX president Pam Cooley believes the partnership is an excellent arrangement for Capital Health employees, CarShareHFX and for the community.

“We’re offering workplaces an option for their employees to have a car in town so that they can carpool or take public transportation into work,” says Cooley. “If they’re using taxis, we can save them up to 50 per cent on costs. And there’s more flexibility. With a taxi, you go and that’s it. You don’t have the opportunity to get back in and go somewhere else.”

“We are building an alternative mode of transportation in the HRM,” says Cooley. “We applaud Capital Health for coming on board. They’ve shown that they are leaders and understand the value of car sharing in the community.”
